Abstract
Ureaformaldehyde foams have been used for a variety of applications, and the major application of ureaformaldehyde foams has been in cavity wall insulation.
Their low cost, low density, low thermal conductivity, and low flammability have made ureaformaldehyde foams suitable for a thermal insulation.
Various kinds of other plastic foams are used as the thermal insulation for new buildings, but the most of them are supplied in the form of boards from factories and it is difficult to apply them to existing dwellings without the removal of existing walls.
However because ureaformaldehyde foams are made on site in portable foaming equipment, it can be applied to existing dwellings as well as new buildings without the removal of existing walls.
In this paper, the basic properties and the procedure for the ureaformaldehyde foams preparation are discribed in comparison with thoes of other foams.
