Various statistical properties of reflected light intensity from printed surface with ink layer fluctuating microscopically in thickness are theoretically analysed under the assumption of a Gaussian type point spread function for the paper and the bivariate Gaussian probability distribution function for the ink thickness fluctuation.
It can be shown from the analysis in this report that both of the mean reflection coefficient and the variance of reflected light intensity have larger value when the root mean square deviation from the mean ink thickness and the width of point spread function of the paper become large, although longer correlation length of ink thickness causes the decrease in the reflection coefficient and the increase in the variance of the reflected light intensity.
