Our study was carried out to prove whether it would be possible or not to obtain on litho-film bases powder images fully good enough for making the originals for printing plate making, by means of electrophotographic transferring.
First, a test chart has been printed by contact method on electrofax paper, corona discharged. After development of the said paper with a magnetic brush, the resultant image on the test chart has been transferred on to film bases or papers, by on of the means of electrostatic method and of adhesive method. The density and resolving power, respectively, of the results of the said transfers have been examined to see whether they are fit for practicability for original prints for plate making.
The transferring effect on the film bases proved to be less than that on the art paper, but when an adhesive was used, its effect became more discernible. About method on film base, sufficient density in the powder image could not be obtained, but through fixing treatment it was brought within the range of possibility for plate making. Resolving powers proved to be different through various transferring methods and the results we obtained out of our experiments were 12 lines/mm by the electrostatic transferring method and 16 lines/mm by adhesive transferring method.
