Suitable light sources must be selected from the viewpoint of (1) color temperature, (2) color rendering index and (3) luminance or illuminance. The JIS standardized these items in detail. In 1965, the Japanese Society of Printing Science and Technology published “Standard Viewing Conditions for Color Appraisal, ” and revised it in 1984. The standard describes (1) the adoption of CIE illuminant D50, (2) the color rendering index Ra 90<, Ri, 85<and (3) the luminance 1400 cd-m-2 or illuminance 2000 lx.
