We have a lot of studies on the influence of Taigyaku Affair upon Japanese modern literature, for example Shigeo Moriyama's recent work Taigyaku Affair and Men of Letters, in which he followed an accepted opinion and dealt with the Pleiades school, that is Takuboku, Ohgai, Kafu, Mokutaro and Osamu Hiraide. It had been thought that Naturalists were obliged to regress, because they assumed indifferent attitudes, thought Mr. Moriyama did not agree with this point. We could adduce evidence of Gyofu Soma's translation A Story of Seven Condemned Criminals to show that not all of them had any interests in the affair. In his relation with Hogetsu Shimamura, Gyofu was concerned in it, for he said that their psychological motive for the affair was affected by Andrieve's A Story of Seven Condemned Criminals.
