The value of "human dignity" is believed to be the basis of fundamental human rights, and Kant is believed to assert that the value of human dignity is the intrinsic "absolute value," which requires respect for others as ends in themselves. However, O.Sensen focused on the concept of dignity and argued that it is not that someone should be respected because she has dignity, but she has dignity because she should be respected. In other words, what matters is not the value of dignity, but autonomy and morality. This paper aims to critically examine his argument and clarify the meaning of the concept of "human dignity."
