[1-(Trifluoromethyl)tetrafluoroethoxy]acetonitrile, which was derived from chloroacetonitrile and hexafluoroacetone with potassium fluoride, was hydrolyzed easily to give the corresponding amide [4] and acid (5).
The solubility and pKa of [1-(trifluoromethyl)tetrafluoroethoxy]acetic acid 5 were determined as 1.34 al and 2.83, respectively, showing that (5) is much less soluble in water than chloro- and cyanoacetic acids with similar acidity.143
