Abstract

The lipid peroxide levels in the serum of 175 individuals were measured by the TBA (thiobarbituric acid) method of Yagi5). The mean TBA value of 38 healthy individuals was 2.14±0.41 nmol/ml and differences between male and female were nil.. The TBA values in serum tended to increase with age and decrease in those over 50, albbeit with no statistical significance. High TBA values in the serum were seen in patients with reticulosis, collagen diseases, malignant tumor, psoriasis and malignant melanoma. On the other hand, patients with of herpes zoster, benign tumor and atopic dermatitis revealed the values within the normal range.
