Abstract

Statistical analysis was made on skin diseases of children. The subjects consisted of nine hundred and fifty-eight children aged under fifteen years old who visited the outpatient dermatology clinic of Asahikawa medical college in 1986 and 1987. The results were as follows:
1) Percentage of children was about 27% of all the new outpatients.
2) About 44% of them were primary school children and junior high school students. Percentages of children aged from 1 year to 5 years and those of less than 1 year old were 38% and 18% respectively.
3) The children visited the outpatient clinic most frequently in January, March and August, which corresponds with school vacations.
4) Eczema-dermatitis, including atopic dermatitis, was most frequently seen in the children and the percentage was more than 50%.
5) Children aged from 1 year to 5 years and primary school children had more viral and bacterial skin diseases than other children under 1 year old or junior high school students. The most common of these infectious skin diseases were verruca vulgaris, molluscum contagiosum and impetigo contagiosa.
6) More than 80% of the skin diseases of children were non-infections diseases.
7) Non-infectious as well as infectious skin diseases should be checked in a dermatological health examination by a dermatologist at schools.
