Abstract
A 73-year-old-female case of transient acantholytic dermatosis (TAD) is herein reported. Pruritic small papules first developed on the patient’s scalp and forehead, then spread over her entire body within 2 weeks. The eruptions disappeared after about 1 month of treatment with topical steroids and systemic antihistamines. A microscopic examination showed suprabasal acantholysis and spongiosis. The results of both direct and indirect immunofiuorescence tests were negative. An examination of the frozen sections by avidin-biotin-peroxidase complex (ABC) technique revealed helper/inducer T cell dominant infiltration in the lesion, suggesting some involvement of T cells in the pathogenesis of TAD.
