Abstract

We report an extremely rare case of a 61-year-old Japanese man with a primary nodular malignant melanoma on his right lower thigh, accompanied by squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) in his right lung. The patient had a 13 mm diameter black nodule on his right leg. He underwent an excisional biopsy at his first visit to our hospital. The histological findings showed a nodular melanoma with a tumor thickness of 8.0 mm (level 4). After admission, an additional wide resection was performed and systemic chemotherapy was started. Computed tomography (CT) revealed a tumor near the pleura in the inferior lobe in his right lung, and a diagnosis as SCC of the lung was made following a CT-guided needle biopsy. Subsequently, the patient underwent a radical resection of his right inferior lobe. So far, only 10 case reports of malignant melanoma with lung carcinoma have been described.
