Etiology of the ossification of the posterior longitudinal ligament (OPLL) is still obscure. This is to report the long-term follow-up study of OPLL cases at least for about 17 years.
A 65-year-old man had a laminectomy of C3 and C4 because of dysesthesia and motor dysfunction of the both upper extremities at the age of 36 and his postoperative course had been satisfactory. However about 1 year ago, development of dysesthesia and motor dysfunctions in the upper and lower extremities and blader disturbance was recognized. In this paper, his roentgenological changes are discussed accompanied with the findings of myelography and CT scan. More over the family history gave a possibility of heredity of OPLL.
