A case of 67 years old woman who had pain and paresthesia over the anterior aspect of the right thigh as well as the motor disturbance of the same side of the knee was admitted to our hospital. She had had an episode of the traffic accident sustaining a forced hyper-extension of her right hip joint eleven months prior to the admission.
The rentogenographic examination revealed a large bony mass arising from the lessor trochanter of the femur to the lower one third of the iliopsoas muscle. Probable diagnosis was a traumatic femoral nerve palsy associated with a myositis ossificans of the iliopsoas muscle. A surgical excision of the mass including a neurolysis of the thickend femoral nerve was performed. However, the recovery of the motor function of the quadriceps muscles as well as the sensation was not so prominent at six months post-operatively. The poor recovery of the femoral nerve palsy might be due to the prolonged compression of the nerve by the localized myositis ossificans.
