To perform decompression of the spinal cord and stabilization of the cervical spine in the patients with multisegmental cervical myelopathy, one stage posterior decompression and anterior fusion of the cervical spine were carried out in 8 cases. The operation consited of two main procedures: one was a decompression of the spinal cord by enlargement of the cervical lamina, and the second was a spinal fusion by anterior interbody fusion. In 2 cases, this method was used for narrow cervical canal combined with anterior spondylotic change and instability. In 6 cases, it was used for cervical spondylotic myelopathy associated with multisegmental involvements above 3 discs and instability.
The patients' symptoms improved significantly after the operation. There was no cases that showed severe operative complications.
