A case of traumatic isolated rupture of the subscapularis tendon is reported. A fifty-seven year old man with no previous shoulder pain or instability sustained an injury on his left shoulder.
On clinical examination, there was tenderness over the front of the shoulder and bicipital groove. All range of movement of his left shoulder was markedly limited.
Plain radiograph showed os acromiale. On arthrographic examination, there was extravasation of dye into the inferior side of the subcoracoid bursa and subdeltoid bursa. Rupture of the subscapularis was also confirmed by ultrasonography and magnetic resonance imaging.
