The objective of this study is to evaluate the relationship between specific sports activities and knee injuries.
During January 1987 to February 1992, 328 patients aged 11-56 underwent arthroscopy. Arthroscopic findings in these cases were investigated.
ACL injuries were found most often in volleyball and basketball. Meniscus injuries without ACL rupture were relatively frequent in mini-volleyball, possibly because of the degenerative changes of the menisci. Similar findings were observed in judo, badminton, and track-and-field sports. In 1/3 of baseball players, no signifi cant arthroscopic findings were obtained except from medial plica, suggesting that overuse might cause the plica syndrome.
