Six cases with femoral head fractures associated with traumatic dislocation of the hip were treated during 1990-1993. The patients ranged in age from 18 to 52 years (mean: 34 years), and were evaluated on average 1.3 years after surgery. Femoral head fractures were classified into 4 Types according to Pinpkin's classification; 1 in Type I, 2 Type II, 3 in Type IV. Two cases were treated by internal fixation with Herbert bone screws and 4 cases with bone pegs.
JOA hip score and Epstein's classification were used for clinical assessment. The postoperative JOA scores averaged 96 points (90-100) and Epstein's classification were 4 Excellent and 1 Good. Avascular necrosis of the femoral head and osteoarthritis of the hip joint were not seen in any cases.
