Reduction of Distal Radial Fractures in Children using an Elevator.
Some cases of children's distal radial fractures are irreducible, and require manipulation under anesthesia. We have experienced 73 cases of distal radial fractures in children. In 38 of these cases, mannual reduction under anesthesia was attempted. Consequently, 27 were successfully reduced.
Eleven cases were reduced using an elevator through a short incision. Since 1991, when we began using this procedure, there have been no cases requiring direct open reduction. We believe that this procedure must be performed before open reduction is indicated.
