We report two cases of supracondylar fractures of the femur who were treated with total knee prosthesis and interlocking intramedullary nailing.
A 69-year-old woman, who had suffered from rheumatoid arthritis, had difficulty in walking due to bilateral knee pain. We advised total knee replacement (T. K. R.). After that she suffered a supracondylar fracture of the right femur. At the same time that we performed T. K. R., we treated her with retrograde insertion of an interlocking intramedullary nail from the intracondylar femoral notch.
A 67-year-old woman suffered a supracondylar fracture of the femur following T. K. R. twice before. She was twice treated with condylar tube plate but still developed another supracondylar fracture we performed retrograde insertion of an interlocking intramedullary nail.
