We report two cases of myositis ossificans around the elbow joint that showed a remarkable improvement in activities of daily living (ADL) following surgical treatment. Patient 1, was a 19-year-old female, who exhibited ectopic ossification of the right triceps muscle and the left brachialis muscle of the upper extremity. She had marked impairment of ADL and underwent surgical treatment for both elbow joints approximately two years after the injury. She became able to feed herself, wash her face and take care of toileting without help. Patient 2, was a 57-year-old male, who suffered from myositis ossificans of the triceps muscle of the right arm. He received 800mg/day of EHDP for 3 months, but ectopic ossification did not disappear and preoperative flexion was 70 degrees and extension was -45 degrees. Surgical treatment was performed approximately 5 months after the onset of myositis ossificans. The patient's present range of motion improved to extension of -30 degrees and flexion of 145 degrees. The patent was able to return to his former job as a carpenter.
