HISTOCHEMICAL DEMONSTRATION OF THE CARBONIC ANHYDRASE IN THE GASTRIC SURFACE EPITHLIUM OF THE HUMAN

Abstract

Histochemically, it was confirmed that the carbonic anhydrase which catalysed both phases of the reversible reaction, H₂CO₃_??_CO₂+H₂O, was recognized in the gastric surface epithelium of the human and dog by the Hannson's cobalt-phosphate method.
In the human and dog, the intracellular localization of the carbonic anhydrase was mainly at the luminal side in the gastric surface epithelium, and the activity of this enzyme in the gastric surface epithelium was histochemically much almost the same as that in the gastric parietal cell.
