Date of correction: January 16, 2007 Reason for correction: - Correction: ABSTRACT Details: Wrong : It is generally acknowledged that radiation therapy for pineal tumor is effective.^{1, 5)} However, whether complete cure can be expected by this therapy or whether recurrence will take place sooner or later is still not known.
We have experienced a patient who had been admitted to our hospital in 1951 and was operated on in the attempt to remove a pineal body tumor. However, massive bleeding occurred during the trephination and the operation had to be stopped before exploration of the tumor could be done. Radiation therapy was given after the operation, and he is alive and well at the present time. Including this case, nine cases of pineal body tumors treated by radiation were presented in this series. The results of long term follow up of these cases are reported and the effectiveness of the radiation therapy for pineal body tumor is discussed.
