Abstract

The water-culture of mint plant was performed in order to study the influence of redox-potential to it. The redox systems adopted were three kinds of mixture of sodium bicarbonate and sodium formate. The redoxpotential of culturesolutions changed, drawing, on the whole, higher and lower waves, and the general tendency of the potential curve of the culture sol-utions to fall down as mint plant grew is a most interesting in contrast with one of mint plant itself to go up gradually. The content of free menthol was greater in more reductive section than in more oxidative but with conjugated it was the reverse. This fact (the latter) may be explained by adopting the theory of optimal potential area to the enzyme action.
