N-Glucosaminide

Part 2. Methylation of p-Toluidine-N-(N'-acetyl) glucosaminide

Abstract

p-Toluidine-N-(N'-acetyl) glucosaminide was methylated with methyl iodide and silver oxide and from the reaction products 3, 4, 6-tritnethyl-N-acetylglucosamine was isolated and identified. This indicates that the N-glucosaminide assumes a cyclic structure in its methylated derivative. A discussion has been given on the analogy of the structural behavior between N-glucosaminide and sugar osazones.
