Abstract

Rilsan®, Polyamide-11 (PA11) is a high performance polyamide produced from amino-11, a monomer derived from castor oil, a non edible and renewable resource. PA11 has been trusted in critical safety and performance applications for over 50 years. Capitalizing on its long-standing experience in castor oil chemistry, Arkema has now developed several range of high performance biobased products based on PA11 monomer, such as Pebax® Rnew-polyamide elastomer, Rilsan® Clear Rnew-transparent polyamide, Rilsan® HT-high temperature flexible polyamide and Platamid® Rnew-hotmelt adhesive. Not only from environmental point of view, but also their impressive performances offer new concept for final product. The present paper deals with the performance of new polyamides derived from castor oil and their application in the market.
