Abstract
The frequency of chondrosarcoma has been reported as 7% of all bone and cartilage malignancies in Japan, 11.3% in the United States as reported by Dahlin at Mayo Clinic, and 24.1% in Netherland according to the report from Committee on Bone Tumors.
The pelvic bones and femur are the sites of frequent occurrence while involvement of the otolaryngological areas is considered to be relatively rare as is seen in a report that the frequency of chondrosarcoma was 0.3 of all malignancies and 2.9% of all sarcomas in the otolaryngological area.
A search of Japanese literature revealed 58 cases of head and neck sarcomas since the initial report made in 1917 by Kobayashi, of which 7 cases were chondrosarcoma of the nasal septum.
The authors discuss the rare case of chondrosarcoma of the nasal septum in comparison with other cases reported in the literature.
