Abstract
Eighteen patients with Meniere's disease were treated with the comibined therapy of urea medication and endolymphatic sac surgery.
1) According to the AAOO (1972) criteria, the results of treatment were evaluated as follows:
There were 3 cases (17%) class A, 9 cases (50%) class B, 2 cases (11%) class C, and 4 cases (22%) class D.
2) According to the AAO-HNS (1985) criteria the results were as follows:
i) Vertigo: 9 cases (50%) had a complete control of definitive spells, and 8 cases (44.5%) had substantial or limited control of definitive spells.
ii) Hearing loss: Hearing improvement was observed in 4 cases (22%), unchanged in 11 cases (61%). In 3 cases (17%), hearing bacame worse after the operation.
These results suggest that the cambined treatment of urea medication and endolymphatic sac surgery is effective in the treatment of frequent vertiginous attacks.
