Abstract
Mucoceles of the posterior paranasal sinus usually produce few nasal complaints, but when they do most of the complaints concern the neighboring organs, such as eye symptoms and headache. We report a 30-year-old male with sphenoidal mucocele having an inveterate trigeminal neuralgia. In this case, mucocele expanded into the right pterygopalatine fossa.Endoscopic endonasal sinus surgery relieved the neuralgia that might be caused by the stimulation of the second branch of the trigeminal nerve due to the mucocele invasion into the pterygopalatine fossa. MRI is very usuful in the diagnosis of posterior paranasal mucocele and pterygopalatine fossa. Among the paranasal sinus diseases, we distinguished between inflammation and tumor by using T2 weighted MRI image.
