The authors performed experiments to clarify the influences of dengue virus (DV) on the auditory function in mice. Six DDY strained mice received an intracranial injection of mouse-adapted DV (Type 1, Mochizuki strain). Five the same strained mice received the injection of physical saline solution as a control. Besides general observations, the auditory brainstem responce (ABR) was measured for evaluation of auditory function. After sacrificed, the temporal bone was examined by the histological method. The results indicated that, in infected mice, the thresholds of ABR were increased and marked edema of the mucoepithelium in tympanic cavity with effusion were observed. In the control animals, there were no significant findings.
