In order to investigate the middle ear factors to influence the stimulated oto-acoustic emission (OAE), we examined the relationship between results of impedance audiometry and OAE in 119 ears with normal hearing. There was no correlation between the static compliance and the pseudothreshold of OAE, nor was between the static compliance and the best frequency of OAE. The pseudothreshold of OAE increased linearly as the physical volume of external auditory canal increased up to 1.0 cc. Also, the pseudothreshold of OAE and the physical volume of external auditory canal increased linearly as the age of the subject increased. Therefore, it is suggested that the increase of physical volume of external auditory canal along the aging elevates the pseudothreshold of OAE, but the static compliance does not influence OAE.
