Temporal bone histopathological findings of two patients with trisomy 18 syndrome were described in this study. Many of the abnormalities described previously were seen in the present series of cases; namely, atresia of the external auditory canal, aberrant tensor tympani muscle with absence of tendon, malformed stapes, absence of the stapedius tendon, aberrant course of the facial nerve with an obtuse angulation at the first genu and geniculate ganglion cells displaced into the internal auditory canal, decreased spinal ganglion cell population, and absence of portions of the superior semicircular canal associated with absence of the crista. In addition, there were bony fixation of the stapedial footplate and extremely underdeveloped malleus and incus in continuation with Meckel's cartilage.
