Motoneurons innervating the levator veli palatini muscle (LVPM), the tensor veli palatini muscle (TVPM) and the tensor tympani muscle (TTM) in the monkey were examined using the method of retrograde axonal transport of horseradish peroxidase (HRP). Injections of WGA-HRP into LVPM produced retrograde labeling of cells ipsilaterally and these labeled cells are clustered mostly in the nucleus ambiguus. Injections of WGA-HRP into TVPM produced retrograde labeling of cells ipsilaterally and these labeled cells are clustered in the ventrolateral portion of the trigeminal motor nucleus (Vm). Injections of HRP into TTM produced retrograde labeling of cells ipsilaterally and these labeled cells are clustered within the region lateral or ventrolateral to the Vm.
