The recent evolution of info-communication technology has relied on the development of the coding technique. In this article, we review a quantum extension of channel coding for information transmission, which is called quantum channel coding. This is a milestone in the evolution from present optical communication technology to a new paradigm for quantum info-communication. We first explain the basic notion of quantum channel coding and its practical implications. We then introduce the present status of research for the demonstration of the basic principles, and also mention some targets for practical implementation.
