A powerful electron beam excitation of condensed noble gases opens wide possibilities for the performance of the coherent radiation sources in the vacuum ultraviolet region of the spectrum.
Excitation of liquid xenon in an optical cavity by electron beam (accelaration voltage up to 700 keV and current density up to 300A/cm2) caused the stimulated emission of 1760A radiation. Narrowing of the line width of the emission spectrum down to 20A was obtained under the excitation condition of 1>30 to 50 A/cm2.
