Greenhouse gases Observing SATellite (GOSAT) "IBUKI" was successfully launched on January 23, 2009. GOSAT observes global distribution of carbon dioxide and methane, which are major greenhouse gases (GHGs). The GHG's global distribution was estimated from the ground-based monitoring staitons, which are mainly located in the advanced countries. GOSAT will measure GHG concentrations even over the sparse area of ground monitoring stations like Mid-Africa, South America, and Siberia. GOSAT will contribute to more precise and certain estimation of GHG distribution and its temporal (monthly) variations. GOSAT measurement scheme, objectives, data processing status, validation plan, and research applications will be shown in this presentation.
