Cross-linked-polyethylene is used as an insulating layer in high-tension cable. Degradation of polyethylene resin used as cable insulation due to electrical discharge is anticipated. Accordingly, it is considered important to minimize degradation due to oxidization by addition of lithium carbonate. In this study, generation of CO and CH_4 gases from thermal decomposition of polyethylene resin was investigated, and changes in the gas generation rate were measured using pyrolysis gas chromatography. The results of the investigation of inhibition of oxidization are reported.
