Abstract
When a person is given a question, she/he shifts the gaze to another position with vacant eyes. We can obtain ERP (Eye Fixation Related Potential) with averaging EEGs at offset ofsaccades. In this study, we measured EFRP during thinking. 10 participants faced to a stripe pattern. They were assigned a mental arithmetic task (30 questions), The participant moved eyes on the stripe pattern. Eye movements and EEGs (Oz, Pz, Cz) were recorded. When a participant started to think about a question, involuntary saccades occurred. EEGs associated with offset ofsaccades were averaged to obtain EFRP. The positive component with latency of about 80ms of EFRP appeared from all participants in the eye movement task. The amplitude in calculation was significantly smaller than those in the eye movement task. Some participants showed alpha waves after eyes shifted. Those resulst showed the visual function declined, while a person was thinking about something.
