Abstract
Frcatal theory is an effective method to describe quantitatively the complicated shape in nature. We applied the fractal theory to medical images. We have utilized scale conversion method to obtain fractal dimensions. A water phantom was scanned with CT under various conditions. The CT images were converted to digital data with pixels of 256×256 and densities of 6 bits. The results showed fractality even after many steps of conversion. The fractal dimensions decreased with decrease of photon noise. Fractal dimensions were thought to be applicable for the quantitative evaluation of CT images.
