Abstract
Various substituted phenols were oxidized with copper(II) acetate and manganese (III) acetate using ultrasonic irradiation. 2-Substituted-4-silyloxyphenols were oxidized in benzene to give the corresponding dimers which were coupled at C-C or C-O atoms. 2-t-Butyl-4-silyloxyphenols was oxidized with manganese (III) acetate in acetic acid using ultrasonic irradiation to give C-O coupling quinone dimer and C-C coupling dimer, respectively. The effect of ultrasonic irradiation was observed for the yield in this oxidation reaction.
