It has been more than half a century since an accelerator was installed at our institute. During this period, we have been vigorously engaged in accelerator-based research and development, succeeded by several generations. We have presented one of the classic uses of accelerators and its medical applications by developing production methods for high-grade four short-lived nuclides for PET studies, various medium- and long-lived metal and halogen nuclides, as well as synthesis methods to label these nuclides efficiently. The present paper introduces a part of our past activities and restoration experiences after a fire accident and discusses the future of accelerator-based nuclide production and radiopharmaceutical development.
