An AVF cyclotron with a K-value of 110 MeV was constructed in 1991 at Takasaki Ion accelerators for Advanced Radiation Application (TIARA) facility to provide high energy ion beams mainly for biotechnology and materials science. This paper first introduces the TIARA facility and describes developments of the cyclotron such as high stabilization of the cyclotron magnetic field and microbeam formation using a focusing magnet briefly. Research outcomes using the TIARA cyclotron are also described.
