Abstract
Thermal shock fracture testing was performed by a water flow quench method. In this technique, thermal shock resistance of ceramics is evaluated with an estimated maximum thermal stress. The heat transfer coefficient of water flow was previously measured on an Ag-specimen under the experimental conditions similar to the thermal shock test. The thermal stress in the specimen during quenching was calculated with measured the heat transfer coefficient. In addition, the fracture time of the specimen was measured with an AE (Acoustic Emission equipment). The maximum thermal stress was calculated with this fracture time.
