Abstract

Aqueous titanium lactate solutions with a concentration as high as 1 M were obtained by direct reaction of titanium tetraisopropoxide with lactic acid. When aqueous ammonia was added to the solutions to increase the pH value to 9.0-9.5, colloidal solutions were obtained from which (004) preferentially oriented anatase films with refractive index of 2.54 were prerared. Patterned TiO₂ films were also obtained from the solutions by photoirradiation to gel films.
