Fabrication of WO3 Thin Film by Sol-Gel Dip-Coating Method

WO3 is a respresentative electrochromic material. Sol-gel coating method for WO3 is a very convenient and cost-effective method. It has the advantage for large-area coating of WO3 thin film. In this study, we synthesized the WO3 precursor transparent sol by dissolving W metal in hydrogen peroxide and mixing it in ethanol by stirring on magnetic stirrer. Chealating agents such as citric acid, ethylene glycol, and propylene oxide were added to obtain a stable WO3 precursor sol. WO3 thin film was fabricated by dipping substrates such as slide glass, SiO2-coated slide glass, and ITO-coated slide glass, then dried at 150oC for 10min, and heat-treated at 300-500oC for 1hr. XRD analyses showed that Na2W4O13 formed on slide glass by diffusion of Na ion and WO3 formed on SiO2-coated slide glass, and ITO-coated slide glass.
