Transition metal doped TiO2 powder as a photocatalyst were prepared by sol-gel process using titanium isopropoxide as a Ti precursor. Sb, Bi and Nb were introduced as a dopants, and the photocatalytic behaviors for the prepared TiO2 powder were studied as a function of doping level and preparation conditions. Optical properties of the doped TiO2 powders were studied by UV-Visible-Spectrometer. X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy were applied for microstructural studies. Photocatalytic activity of each doped TiO2 was characterized in terms of the degradation of a dichlorobenzene. XRD analysis indicated that the doping of transition metal suppress the phase transition of TiO2 from anatase to rutile. The sample heat-treated at 500oC exhibited anatase phase, while anatase phases were remained in the samples heat-treated over 700oC. The UV-visible absorption spectra of doped samples were red-shifted by 20~50nm according to doping level. Some of doped TiO2 exhibited improved photocatalytic activity.
