The volatilization of PbO causes trouble in compositional fluctuation and environmental contamination, since the sintering temperature of Pb(Zr,Ti)O3 ceramics is generally too high. The lowering of this temperature can offer the advantages of reducing energy consumption and fabrication cost. The attempts of the low-temperature sintering have then been reported by many researchers using different materials and techniques, however, there are still some problems, particularly on piezoelectricity. We have also attempted to prepare Pb(Zr,Ti)O3 and various perovskite-type complex-oxides powders by a hydrothermal reaction and a coprecipitation, and then studied the effects of the addition of the complex-oxides as aids on both lowering of sintering temperature and piezoelectricity.
