We prepared powders of the mixture of metal chelates formed by a spray-drying apparatus having a two-fluid nozzle that has an ability to vary the atomizing air pressure from 40 kPa to 100 kPa. Three types of chelete: EDTA, DTPA and TTHA were selected to prepare metal chelates aquous solution. The metal chelate powders were formed from metal chelates aquous solution and then thermally decomposed in the electric furnace at 1000°C for 0.5 h to synthesize Y1.90O3:Eu0.10. Effects of particle size and crystallinity on intensity of photoluminescence in the sample were examined. The intensity of photoluminescence increased with increasing the crystallinity, regardless of what kind of chelating agent was used. However, no major relationship between the intensity of photoluminescence and particle size were observed.
