Bioactive glass of 45S5 type (BG), composed of Na2O 24.5, CaO 24.5, SiO2 45.5 and P2O5 6.0 wt%, is capable of bonding to original bone via new bone. When BG is implanted in body, the new bone is produced after reactions between surfaces of implanted BG and various factors included in surrounding medium. It is significant to control surface reactions for investigation in bone formation on implanted BG in body. In this study, the surface reactions of BG were suggested being controlled by electrical polarization. After BG was electrically polarized, negatively or positively charges were stored on surfaces of the BG and affected the migration of the various factors in the surrounding medium in body at the surface′s neighborhood.
