Abstract
Red emitting phosphor Y2O3:Eu was synthesized by gel combustion reaction of yttrium nitrate, europium nitrate and glycine to synthesize nano Y2O3:Eu with high crystallinity. After ignited at 300°C in muffle furnace, fine particle Y2O3:Eu (~100 nm) was obtained although they agglomerated and formed a porous structure reflecting high viscosity of the gel and explosion in a few second. The luminescence and XRD intensity changed with glycine/nitrate ratio, which corresponded to the change of combustion temperature. To enhance the luminescence intensity and avoid the agglomeration of particles, some additives were used with the starting materials and ignition method was changed.
