Previously, Thai Industrial Standards Institute (TSTI) has published the standard for filter used in drinking purposes (TSTI.1450-2540), applied in quality control for the domestic and imported ceramic water filter products. Yet, a methodology for pore size measurement in ceramic filter remained available only as a guideline, SEM or equivalent analytical techniques without an adequate procedure. A technique to determine pore size is developed in this work and should provide a manufacturer another alternative procedure for pore size measurement. The technique employ scanning electron microscopy (SEM) for the direct measurement while gas adsorption technique (BET) and mercury porosimetry for an indirect ones. Comparisons among the results obtained from these techniques reveal that only SEM and mercury intrusion porosimetry techniques can be viable for pore size determination of the ceramic filter. BET technique is not appropriate due to the range of pore size exceeds the instrumental detection limit.
